Why does God conveniently act in ways which make him exempt from rationality?

God doesn't have to act in any way, except in ways that are consistent with God's nature. So you'd have to demonstrate that what is God is doing is inconsistent with his nature. I don't think you've succeeded. You're doing the reverse of what certain Christians do when they claim that the universe is so beautiful that it must be the work of benevolent creator. I doubt you find that persuasive, so why should anyone find it persuasive when you take up that kind of argument?
